The Beginning of Wisdom

Wisdom

Every journey begins somewhere. According to Solomon, the journey toward true wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord.

Biblical fear is a posture of reverence, honor, awe, and surrender before God. Rather than terror or dread, it reflects a deep respect for His presence and authority. It recognizes His authority, His holiness, His wisdom, and His right to direct our lives. The fear of the Lord places God in His rightful position as Lord and positions us to receive His wisdom.

Many people pursue knowledge, information, and understanding, yet Scripture teaches that knowledge without God remains incomplete. True wisdom begins when we acknowledge God as the source of all truth. As we draw near to Him, our understanding deepens, our discernment grows, and our decisions become aligned with His purposes.

The fear of the Lord protects us from pride because it continually reminds us that God sees what we cannot see and knows what we do not know. It creates a teachable spirit that welcomes correction, instruction, and growth.

Solomon contrasts this posture with the fool who rejects wisdom and instruction. A wise person remains teachable. A wise person understands that growth requires humility. The pathway of wisdom is marked by a continual willingness to learn from God and apply His truth.

Every area of life flourishes when built upon this foundation. Relationships, finances, ministry, work, family, and personal growth all benefit when God’s wisdom becomes our guide.

Reflection

Am I approaching God with a heart that is teachable, humble, and willing to receive His instruction?

Prayer

Father, fill my heart with reverence and awe for who You are. Teach me Your ways and give me a spirit that welcomes Your wisdom and instruction. Help me walk in humility and trust Your guidance above my own understanding. Let Your wisdom direct every area of my life today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Declaration

I declare that the fear of the Lord is the foundation of my life. I walk in humility, wisdom, and understanding. My heart is teachable, my mind is renewed by God’s truth, and my steps are directed by His wisdom. As I honor the Lord, He establishes my path and gives me discernment for every decision. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
