Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
These powerful words were spoken by Moses to the people of Israel as they stood on the threshold of the Promised Land. After years of wandering in the wilderness, they were preparing to step into a new season filled with promise and challenge. Before they crossed over, Moses reminded them of a truth that would sustain them through every battle ahead: God Himself would go with them.
The call to be strong and courageous was rooted in God’s presence. The Lord had faithfully led Israel through the wilderness, and He would continue to lead them into everything He had promised.
This verse reveals an important principle for every believer. Courage is the decision to trust God in the midst of uncertainty. Strength comes from the assurance that God is present and actively working on our behalf.
One of the greatest promises found in this passage is God’s declaration that He will never leave or forsake His people. Human relationships sometimes disappoint us, circumstances sometimes change unexpectedly, and seasons sometimes become difficult. God’s faithfulness remains constant. His presence remains steady through every circumstance. He stays with us through every valley, every transition, every battle, and every victory.
The command to “fear not” appears throughout Scripture because God desires His people to live in faith and confidence. Fear directs attention toward obstacles. Faith directs attention toward God. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God has given us power, love, and a sound mind. When fear attempts to take hold of our hearts, we can stand upon the promises of God and trust His unfailing care.
This promise extends beyond Israel’s journey into the Promised Land. The writer of Hebrews echoes these same words, reminding believers that God will never leave or forsake us. This promise belongs to all who place their trust in Him.
Applying This Truth Today
When you face challenges, uncertainty, or difficult decisions, remember that God is with you.
When fear tries to overwhelm your heart, trust God’s promises and walk forward in faith.
When circumstances seem impossible, draw strength from His presence and follow His guidance.
When the future feels uncertain, remember that the One who knows the end from the beginning is guiding your steps.
God calls you into a life of fellowship with Him. He goes before you, walks beside you, and remains faithful through every season of life. His presence empowers you to move forward with confidence, strength, and courage.
