Cultivating a Life of Peace

How do we know when a season of our lives is beginning or coming to an end? What does that transition look like? These are questions I’ve personally been bringing before the Lord, asking for clarity. I have not yet sensed confirmation in my spirit, but I will keep praying, keep seeking, and keep asking. As Scripture reminds us, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7).

Scripture also tells us that one of the signs of God’s direction is peace. This leads me to ask: what does it truly mean to have true peace regardless of our circumstances? Peace comes from God Himself. It is not something we can create or manufacture on our own. “The LORD bless you and keep you… and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24–26).

Peace is found in relationship with God through Jesus. I’ve often wondered how to live in that place of true peace daily, not merely as an emotion, but as a settled way of being. Jesus did not only teach about peace. He is peace. “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you… Let not your heart be troubled” (John 14:27). Scripture also affirms, “He Himself is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14).

Biblical peace, shalom, speaks of wholeness. The Hebrew word shalom means completeness, well-being, harmony, and restoration. And who is Shalom? Jesus! “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You” (Isaiah 26:3). As a practical person, I ask myself how to apply these truths to everyday life.

Peace is both received and cultivated, through prayer, surrender, and alignment with God’s ways. True biblical peace is protective, active, and enduring. While we may still walk through difficult circumstances and challenging seasons, we can remember this: Jesus is our Protector. He is actively at work in our lives. And as long as we endure, we ultimately have Him, PEACE.
