Scripture Reading
“David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty.’” 1 Samuel 17:45
Food for Thought
David was just a young shepherd boy when he faced the giant Goliath. He didn’t have armor. He didn’t have a sword. But what he did have was even more powerful, courage that came from trusting God.
While everyone else was afraid, David remembered all the times God had helped him before, like when he fought off lions and bears to protect his sheep. That gave him the confidence to believe that God would help him again.
David teaches us that courage doesn’t mean we aren’t afraid. It means we trust God more than we fear the challenge. You may not face a giant like Goliath, but maybe you’re scared of speaking in front of a group, standing up for someone being bullied, or doing something new. Whatever your “giant” is, you can face it like David, in the name of the Lord.
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank You for giving us the story of David to remind us that we can be brave. Help us to trust You just like David did. Give us courage to face hard things and to know You are always with us. Amen.
