What the Bible says about Courage?
According to Google it means the ability to do something that frightens one and according to Merriam Webster it means “strength of mind to carry on in spite of danger or difficulty”. In scripture, courage is also referred to as “good cheer” which means boldness and confidence. Throughout the Bible, God commands us to fear not, to be of good cheer, and to have courage in our life. Psalm 27:14 says “Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!” (NKJV).
The Lord has been speaking to me about 2 Timothy 3:16 recently and finding the WHY it is important to raise our children in a spirit-filled home, teaching, reproofing, correcting and training (or instructing) them in righteousness. We have been blessed with precious children into our care while on earth, should we not do our best to teach them in the way they should live their lives according to God’s breathed word?
We have not been born with courage, but it is something that is learnt. The words “courage” and “courageous” appear at least 30 times in the Bible. It is not something to take lightly but to live by. It takes courage to teach our children, we often feel unequipped, fearful, unsure, self-doubting our abilities. But we are not to rely on our own strength but on the Lord’s. HE is the one who gives us courage and strength for the daily struggles that we face as parents.
We receive our courage from the cross. Courage moves us from the unknown, unfamiliar and difficult place to the good, fearless, boldness, confidence and of good cheer that Jesus wants for us.
